It sounds like a headline from The Onion, but there I've said it. The Tetley brewery in Leeds has been marked for closure for a while now & today's news is that the beer will be brewed in Wolverhamptoni by Marston's. Whilst the press thinks this is treasonous & the Leeds Northi West MP Greg Mulholland has suggested a boycott of Calsberg - who own Tetley - I don't really care.
I support the boycotting of Carlsberg in so far as their bland international brands don't appeal to me - so I've been inadvertantly boycotting them for a while now. This, however, is like the local bed factory closing or the local rope maker shutting down: nothing personal, its just business. Big international business.
Hopefully a small craft brewery will open up & declare itself the official brewery of Leeds - like these fellas or these fellas - & will do a roaring trade off the swelling of public discomfort of an international giant doing what it wants at the whim of the markets.
