This story has annoyed me a little. The landlord actually organised mass light-ups in his pubs in defiance of the smoking ban. He then doesn't pay his fines & goes to jail.
I've no problem with that bit - you break the law, you take the consequenses.
It's the part where he's quoted as saying "The smoking ban has cost me my pub, my job and my liberty". The smoking ban has done no such thing. Breaking the law willingly has cost you your pub, your job & your liberty. Mr Hogan isn't a victim of Brussels Bureaucracy or "PC gone mad" - he's organised an activity that is against the law & has been punished for it.
Now whether the anti-smoking law is fair or not is another matter. I'm for it - I like the fact that I don't stink of smoke the next day & should I choose to work behind the bar I have the same protection as every other worker from second hand smoke.
