Marble Arch, Manchester

Type of review:

Location:

Since The Beer House closed & The Angel became a serious food pub, The Marble Arch must have seen a good rise in trade as real ale fans flock to what is surely the greatest selection of quality ales in Manchesteri.   A pub listed in CAMRA's National Inventory of pub interiors, it has some very olde worlde charm.

The Marble Brewery is based here & so as you'd expect, their beers are well represented on the bar.   Jolly fine beers they are too.   A group of us went in & asked some away football fans if they wouldn't mind moving their coats so we could sit down & we had no trouble.

I had a particularly fine pint of White Amarillo from the Durham Brewery which went down a treat.   A very pale yellow beer with a delicate hop flavour - which I'm guessing is from the American Amarillo variety (duh!) - and a gentle malt sweetness.

Additional: With The Angel down the road being set up as a good food pub, The Marble Arch has upped its food quality & is now top notch.   Voted best chips chips in the whole world ever by DM & Mark.
