I enjoyed the previous series about wine where James & Oz toured France & then California so I was bound to like this series. James plays the ingoramous but he always came across as the intellectual one on Top Gear - although not difficult when you are up against Clarkson & Hampster. He does voice to Oz though what people are shouting at the telly at home "shut up with the poncy nonsence & tell us something useful!"
Because of May seems the perfect foil to Oz, I have learnt more about flavour descriptors & vinyards than I would have watching a programme featuring Oz (or any other wine "personality") alone.
Certainly without May I wouldn't have heard the joke about a vinyard near Leeds that had "Yorkshire Terroir". Now that's funny. It was also great to hear Oz say that making beer was how civilisation got started.
Episode 1 has just been one BBC2 & is available on the BBC iplayer for 52 days. No doubt there will be a book & DVD to follow. This must be very cheap telly to make (apart from May & Oz's fees) but it is just great to watch. Its a little like the Hairy Bikers Cook Book - it looks like two blokes arsing about, but you will end up learning something before the end of the programme.
