Which country brews the best beer? Since October 2006 I have kept a diary of every bottle of beer I've drunk on a spreadsheet and scored them out of ten. There are a total of 682 entries (as of August'09). Draught beer in pubs would be impracticle and would lead to loud accusations of geekiness. In my own home I can be as geeky as I like.
The results are:
| Country | Average Score Out of 10 | No of Scores |
| Germanyi | 7.1 | 92 |
| Czechi | 7.0 | 14 |
| England* | 6.8 | 376 |
| USA | 6.8 | 44 |
| Belgium | 6.8 | 39 |
| England | 6.7 | 389 |
| Scotlandi | 6.7 | 58 |
| Walesi | 6.6 | 17 |
* if two certain breweries (that I have written about elsewhere) are eliminated then England jump to third. Unfortunately almost every bottle of beer I've opened from these two breweries is oxidised or infected & it screws up my averages.
Several factors skew the results. I live & travel alot in England, so I have access to many beers indiscriminate of how good they are. Foreign beers that make it to England must be of a certain standard for importers to risk selling them or breweries to brew them under license - mostly.
To be on this chart a country must have five or more entries on my spreadsheet.
