An all wooden pub with a mix of customers from smart suits to football groups watching the giant telly. 10 real ales on the bar & several decent bottled beers in the fridges.

Every week it seems I read or hear that 25 pubs close every month. Or is it 12 every week? Or is it 3 every day? Are we about to run out of pubs?

Well done to the city centre pub The Wellington for being voted the pub of the year in Birmingham yet again.

I have to admit that I picked this pub like so many old ladies pick race horses - by the name.

A proper boozer with a long bar with over 10 real ales on & a darts team. The beers are listed clearly at the side of the bar & the fridges behind the bar are teaming with decent beer in bottles.

Well you've been in one Weatherspoon's & you've more-or-less been in them all. It's both their greatest & worst point.

A pub right on the edge of Aston Uni's campus in the city centre & with loads of "we're bonkers, we are" students using the cash point next to the pub, but none actually in the pub.

Bored on a rainy night in Nottingham with the only other option being going back to my hotel with a bottle in front of the telly, I walked downhill to the canal side & the pub with my name on.

Now I couldn't stay a night in Nottingham without calling in here.

One of the oldest pubs in Britain & right next to my hotel, The Salutation is a rock pub that has a loud jukebox when there aren't bands.
